3775 Wilson (ed. 1934): “The third bout is a draw, i.e. the opponents either score a simultaneous ‘touch’—so slight as not to cause a scratch from Laer.’s ‘sharp,’ or they catch each other’s word-points in the pas d’âne, that is the hooks on the hilts of their daggers (cf. note l. 300 [3777] S.D.), and so ‘lock.’ The doubt, expressed by the K. in l. 293 [3767], now troubles laer.; he has ‘passed with his best violence’ without result. Something must be done.”
