3317 quick] Delius (ed. 1854) : “quick ist zugleich ‘lebendig’ und ‘behende.’” [quick is both ‘alive’ and ‘agile.’]

3317 quick] Romdahl (1869, p. 41): <p. 41>“Quick is now almost antiquated in the sense of living, as applied to the whole being in opposition to a dead body, but often so employed by old authors, and even in the Bible. In some phrases, however, (see, for instance, above [2.2.626 (1637)] and [4.7.124 (3112+10)], where it means, the living flesh, the most sensible parts of an animal body, or, metaphorically, the most delicate feelings of the mind, it is still in use. Living was the original and proper sense of the AS cwic, quek, quik, just as of the Germ. queck and the Swed. quick. The word was, as we have shown, already in O.E.s pelt alternately cwic an quik, but in modern English it has always been written quick, according to the general rule that the A.S. cw is changed into qu in English, for instance, queen from cwên, quench from cwencan.” </p. 41>

3316 in’t] Tschischwitz (ed. 1869): “Diese Art der Satzverkürzung mit to giebt bei Sh. oft zu Irrungen Anlass. So in [[R2 2.1.94 (736-37)] Now he that made me knows, I see thee ill, ill in myself to see not in thee seing ill.” [This practice of abridging clauses with to often leads in Shakespeare to occasions for error. So in [[R2 2.1.94 (736-37)] Now he that made me knows, I see thee ill, ill in myself to see not in thee seing ill.”]

3317 quick] Clark & Wright (ed. 1872): “alive, as in the Creed. See [5.1.236, 268 (3444, 3477) and H5 2.2.79 (708)]: ‘The mercy that was quick in us but late By your own counseil is suppress’d and kill’d.’ The other sense of ‘quick,’ opposed to ‘slow,’ is alluded to in the lext line [3319].”
