2919 in] Tschischwitz (ed. 1869): “Für into ist in in der ältesten Sprache noch lange und auch jetzt noch bei einigen Verben wie stellen, tauchen, fallen u. s. w. gebräuchlich. cf. Bulw. Rienzi: They fall in the pit, they themselves had digged. Koch II. 341. M. II. 345.” [In was used for into in the earliest language and is still used with some verbs like place, dip, fall etc. Cf. Bulw. Rienzi: They fall in the pit, they themselves had digged. Koch II. 341. M. II. 345.]

Corson
2919 rain’d] Corson (1874, p. 31): “The F. reading [raines] is more significant: They bore him barefaced on the bier, and many a tear [now] rains on his grave. According to the C. reading, ‘rain’d’ is used transitively, the subject being ‘They’, and the reference is to the shedding of tears at the burial.”
In each of his “jottings on the text,” Corson notes variants between F1 and cam1, stating his preference and, to a greater or lesser extent, offering a rationale. Bracketed [now] is Corson’s.
