Given Claudius’s remark that ’[m]y words fly up,’ he presumably prays audibly rather than silently (3.3.97). Hamlet therefore bases his judgment that his uncle is ’in the purging of his soul’ (3.3.85) and ’is fit and season’d for his passage’ (3.3.86) on, as Claudius reveals after Hamlet exits, ’[w]ords without thoughts’ (3.3.98).”
