1939 Quality] Hunter (-1845, f. 232v): “Quality seems to have had the sense which now belongs to the word profession. This is well shown in the notes. I add that Davies speaks of his profession of a writing-master as a quality: ‘There was a time when I (unworthy I) Was known to thee; when thou such use didst make (For mine advantage) of my quality’ Scourge of Folly. f. 187.
