1655-7 Davies (1765-): “This speech is a strong confirmation of the baseness of these two school fellows of Hamlet, who betray him to the King as far as lies in their power & seem to having nothing in view in all their commerce with the Prince but at the expence of honor & fidelity to betray him, in hopes to get the reward such thanks as fits a King’s remembrance.”

Davies (1784, p. 72): "This speech of Guildenstern contains a full confirmation of the baseness and treachery of these schoolfellows of Hamlet, who betray him, as far as lies in their power, to the King. In their commerce with the Prince, they seem to have nothing in view, but, at his expence, with the loss of their own honour, to gain such thanks as fits a king’s remembrance."
