1076 My . . . feast.] Knight (ed. 1839): “So the quartos — the news of Polonius shall follow the message of the ambassadors, as fruit after meat. The folio reads:— ‘My news shall be the news to that great feast.’ Caldecott interprets this — my news shall be the leading topic. We are inclined to think that news was repeated, by a typographical error not uncommon.”

1076 My . . . feast.] Collier (ed. 1843): “The folios, by a printer’s error, ‘My news shall be the news to that great feast.’”

1076 My...feast] Hunter (1845, p. 227): “This is the reading of the quartos. The folios have ‘My news shall be the news to that great feast.’ which is obviously wrong, but it may suggest the true reading, ‘My news shall be the nuts to that great feast.’ We still say, ‘It will be nuts to him,’ where a person has to hear something that will please him. The allusion to a banquet is kept up.”

1076 fruite] Collier(1853, p. 423): “We have here one more of the many proofs how one word was put for another, because the word misprinted occurred in a different part of the same line: the quartos assign to Polonius, — ‘My news shall be the fruit to that great feast.’ In the folio, 1623, it became,— ‘My news shall be the news to that great feast;’ which was more absurdly repeated in the folio, 1632; but ‘fruit’ is restored (perhaps from one of the quartos) in the margin of the second folio.”

1076 My . . . feast] Singer(1853, p. 263): “The correction of the misprint news for fruit, the reading of the quartos, having been made in all editions, has consequently been adopted from one of them; it is mere assuption that the correctors had all the quartos at their command, unless we are to suppose they lived in our times, which is most probably the case.”
1857 dyce1

1076 My . . . feast] Dyce (ed. 1857):"My news shall be the fruit to that great feast." So the quartos, 1604, &c.—The folio has "My Newes shall be the Newes to that great Feast;" which Caldecott adopts!—Mr. Knight is "inclined to think that news was repeated by a typographical error:" — I am strongly inclined to think so too.”

1076 My ... feaste] Symons (in IRVING & MARSHALL ed. 1890): “My news shall be the FRUIT to that great feast. –So Qq.; Ff. print Newes, which is an evident misprint arising out of the accidental repetition of the word from the earlier part of the line. Elze compares Marston, The Malcontent, Induction: ‘Sly. What are your additions? But, Sooth, not greatly needfull, only as your sallet to your great fiest.’ Works, ed. Halliwell, vol. ii. P. 202.”
