1860 Walker
Walker
621+9 As] Walker (1860, 1:128): “As is here used not in the sense of for instance, but in that of namely, to wit; it expresses an enumeration of particulars, not a selection from them by way of example. This is a frequent—perhaps, indeed, the one exclusive—signification of as, when employed in this construction; e.g. [3H6 5.7.7 (3178) quotes:] “Two Cliffords, as the father and the son; and surrounding lines]. This is the true construction of as in a number of passages, where it has been, or is likely to be, mistaken for the modern usage.”
[Walker lists several examples, starting with 621+9.]

mull
621+9 Mull (ed. 1885): The transference of the parenthesis “to the begining of the line, as I have done, seems to be required by the plain demands of the context. ‘As derived from their birth’ belong to the clause following, and to that which precedes.”
BWK: It could as easily be connected to the prior line, an explanation of mole.

The syntax is clear if one understands the as is equivalent to ’namely’ (cf. 124+10) and introduces a specification of various categories.
