Kliman
560-2 as . . . honor] Kliman (1995): If the phrase as so tis put on me modifies caution, as the loose quarto punctuation allows, then it seems that Polonius is saying he must tell her that those who have told him about Hamlet’s attentions have cautioned him; the main clause then begins “You do not understand yourself . . . . ” Those texts that parenthesize unambiguously select the syntax of the folio, which puts a stop (a colon) before the phrase, making the main clause “I must tell you, [that] . . . .”

560-1 Thompson & Taylor (ed. 2006): “Rather a loose construction: Polonius may be saying, ’those who suggested this to me did so to warn me’ (implied by the dashes after so and caution in Jenkins’s and Hibbard’s punctuation), or he may be saying, ’I’m telling you this to warn you.’ ”
