Fernando Cioni Biography

Fernando Cioni, Ph.D., teaches English Literature at the University of Florence. He has written extensively on Shakespeare (Antony and Cleopatra, King John, The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew, Pericles, The Winter's Tale). Among his recent publications, he has edited three collections of Shakespeare's plays in Italian (Tragedies, Romantic Comedies, and Problem Plays and Romances). He also edited a bi-lingual edition of A Midsummer Night's Dream, and, with Keir Elam, A Civil Conversation: Anglo-Italian literary and cultural exchange in the Renaissance. With Virginia Mason Vaughan and Jacquelyn Bessell, he edited Speaking Pictures: The Visual/Verbal Nexus of Dramatic Performance. His current editing projects include The New Variorum Edition of The Taming of the Shrew, an intellectual biography of Shakespeare, and the fourth volume (Histories) of the complete Shakespeare in Italian.
