Christel Stalpaert (b.1971) is Professor at the Department of Performance Studies and Film at Ghent University (Belgium). Her main field of study is performing arts at the crossroads of philosophy. She published several articles in books and academic journals (a.o. Documenta, Ballet-Tanz, Arcadia, Eighteenth-Century Life, ...) and she is editor of Documenta, Theater Topics (Amsterdam University Press) and Studies in Performing Arts and Film (Academia Press). She recently edited the books Peter Greenaway’s Prospero’s Books: Critical Essays (Academia Press, 2000), Deleuze revisited: Contemporary Performing Arts and the Ruin of Representation (Documenta, 2003), De speler en de strop: tweehonderd jaar theater in Gent (Snoeck, 2005) and No beauty for me there where human life is rare. On Jan Lauwers’ Theatre Work with Needcompany (Academia Press/IT&FB, 2007).
