1.1 In Now it came to pass in the days of the judges, when the judges ruled, that there came was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem Juda, Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the land country of Moab with Moab, he, and his wife wife, and his two sons.

1.2 He And the name of the man was named Elimelech, and the name of his wife Noemi: Naomi, and the name of his two sons, the one Mahalon, sons Mahlon and the other Chelion, Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem Juda. Bethlehemjudah. And entering they came into the country of Moab, they abode and continued there.

1.3 And Elimelech the Naomi's husband of Noemi died: died; and she remained with was left, and her two sons.

1.4 And they took them wives of the women of Moab, Moab; the name of which the one was called Orpha, Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth. And Ruth: and they dwelt their dwelled there about ten years, years.

1.5 And they both died, to wit, Mahalon Mahlon and Chelion: Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left alone, having lost both of her two sons and her husband.

1.6 And Then she arose to go from the land of Moab to her own country, with both her daughters in law: law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that the Lord LORD had looked upon visited his people, and had given people in giving them food.bread.

1.7 Wherefore she went forth out of the place of her sojournment, with both where she was, and her two daughters in law: law with her; and being now in they went on the way to return into unto the land of Juda,Judah.

1.8 She And Naomi said to them: Go ye home unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to your mothers, her mother's house: the Lord LORD deal mercifully kindly with you, as you ye have dealt with the dead dead, and with me.

1.9 May he The LORD grant you to that ye may find rest rest, each of you in the houses house of the husbands whom you shall take. And her husband. Then she kissed them. And them; and they lifted up their voice, and began to weep, wept.

1.10 And to say: We they said unto her, Surely we will go on return with thee to unto thy people.

1.11 But she answered them: Return, And Naomi said, Turn again, my daughters: why come will ye go with me? have I are there yet any more sons in my womb, that you they may hope for husbands of me?be your husbands?

1.12 Return Turn again, my daughters, and go your ways: way; for I am now spent with age, and not fit for wedlock. Although too old to have an husband. If I might conceive this should say, I have hope, if I should have an husband also to night, and should also bear children,sons;

1.13 If you would wait Would ye tarry for them till they were grown up, and come to man's estate, you grown? would be old women before you marry. Do not so, ye stay for them from having husbands? nay, my daughters, I beseech you: daughters; for I am grieved the more it grieveth me much for your distress, and sakes that the hand of the Lord LORD is gone out against me.

1.14 And they lifted up their voice, and began to weep wept again: Orpha and Orpah kissed her mother in law, and returned: law; but Ruth stuck close to her mother in law. clave unto her.

1.15 And Noemi said to her: Behold she said, Behold, thy kinswoman sister in law is returned to gone back unto her people, and to unto her gods, go gods: return thou with her. after thy sister in law.

1.16 She answered: Be And Ruth said, Intreat me not against me, to desire that I should leave thee and depart: thee, or to return from following after thee: for whithersoever whither thou shalt go, goest, I will go: go; and where thou shalt dwell, lodgest, I also will dwell. Thy lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God. God:

1.17 The land that shall receive thee dying, in the same Where thou diest, will I die: die, and there will I be buried. The Lord buried: the LORD do so and so to me, and add more also, if aught ought but death part me thee and thee.me.

1.18 Then Noemi seeing When she saw that Ruth she was steadfastly determined stedfastly minded to go with her, would not be against it, nor persuade her any more then she left speaking unto her.

1.19 So they two went until they came to return Bethlehem. And it came to her friends:pass, when they were come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they said, Is this Naomi?

1.20 But And she said to them: unto them, Call me not Noemi (that is, beautiful,) but Naomi, call me Mara (that is, bitter), Mara: for the Almighty hath quite filled me dealt very bitterly with bitterness.me.

1.21 I went out full and the Lord LORD hath brought me back empty. Why home again empty: why then do you call ye me Noemi, whom Naomi, seeing the Lord LORD hath humbled, testified against me, and the Almighty hath afflicted?afflicted me?

1.22 So Noemi came with Ruth, Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, from with her, which returned out of the land country of her sojournment: Moab: and returned into Bethlehem, they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of the barley harvest.

DRB Chapter 2 KJV

2.1 Now her husband Elimelech And Naomi had a kinsman, kinsman of her husband's, a powerful man, mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and very rich, whose his name was Booz.Boaz.

2.2 And Ruth, Ruth the Moabitess, Moabitess said to her mother in law: If thou wilt, I will unto Naomi, Let me now go into to the field, and glean the ears of corn that escape the hands of the reapers, wheresoever after him in whose sight I shall find grace with a householder, that will be favourable to me. grace. And she answered her: said unto her, Go, my daughter.

2.3 She And she went, therefore, and came, and gleaned in the ears of corn field after the reapers. And it happened that the owner reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of that the field was Booz, belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.

2.4 And And, behold, he Boaz came out of from Bethlehem, and said to unto the reapers: reapers, The Lord LORD be with you. And they answered him: him, The Lord LORD bless thee.

2.5 And Booz Then said to the young man Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers: reapers, Whose maid damsel is this ?this?

2.6 And he the servant that was set over the reapers answered him: This and said, It is the Moabitess, who Moabitish damsel that came back with Noemi, from Naomi out of the land country of Moab,Moab:

2.7 And she desired leave to said, I pray you, let me glean the ears of corn that remain, following and gather after the steps of reapers among the reapers: and sheaves: so she came, and hath been in the field continued even from the morning till until now, and hath not gone home for one moment.that she tarried a little in the house.

2.8 And Booz Then said to Ruth: Hear me, daughter, do Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not go to glean in any other another field, and do not depart neither go from this place: hence, but keep with abide here fast by my maids, maidens:

2.9 And follow where Let thine eyes be on the field that they reap. For I do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged my the young men, men that they shall not to molest thee: touch thee? and if when thou art thirsty, athirst, go to unto the vessels, and drink of that which the waters whereof young men have drawn.

2.10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the servants drink.ground, and said unto him, Why have I found grace in thine eyes, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a stranger?

2.11 And he Boaz answered her: All and said unto her, It hath fully been told shewed me, all that thou hast done to unto thy mother in law after since the death of thy thine husband: and how thou hast left thy parents, father and thy mother, and the land wherein thou wast born, of thy nativity, and art come to unto a people which thou knewest not heretofore.

2.12 The Lord render unto thee for LORD recompense thy work, and mayst thou receive a full reward be given thee of the Lord the LORD God of Israel, to whom thou art come, and under whose wings thou art fled.come to trust.

2.13 And Then she said: I have found grace said, Let me find favour in thy eyes, sight, my lord, who lord; for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken to the heart of thy friendly unto thine handmaid, who am though I be not like to unto one of thy maids.thine handmaidens.

2.14 And Booz Boaz said to her: unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. So And she sat at the side of beside the reapers, reapers: and she heaped to herself frumenty, he reached her parched corn, and ate she did eat, and was filled, sufficed, and took the leavings.left.

2.15 And when she arose from thence, was risen up to glean the ears of corn as before. And Booz glean, Boaz commanded his servants, saying: If she would young men, saying, Let her glean even reap with you, hinder among the sheaves, and reproach her not:

2.16 And let fall also some of your the handfuls of purpose, purpose for her, and leave them, that she may gather them without shame, glean them, and let no man rebuke her when she gathereth them.not.

2.17 She So she gleaned therefore in the field till evening: until even, and beating beat out with a rod, and threshing what that she had gleaned, she found gleaned: and it was about the measure of an ephi ephah of barley, that is, three bushels:barley.

2.18 Which And she took it up, and returned went into the city, city: and shewed it to her mother in law: moreover, law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought out, forth, and gave her of the remains of to her meat, wherewith that she had been filled.reserved after she was sufficed.

2.19 And her mother in law said to her: unto her, Where hast thou gleaned today, to day? and where hast thou wrought? wroughtest thou? blessed be he that hath had pity on did take knowledge of thee. And she told shewed her mother in law with whom she had wrought: wrought, and she told the said, The man's name, that he was called Booz.name with whom I wrought to day is Boaz.

2.20 And Noemi answered her: Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the Lord: because the same LORD, who hath not left off his kindness which he shewed to the living, he hath kept also living and to the dead. And again she said: Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our kinsman.next kinsmen.

2.21 And Ruth said: the Moabitess said, He also charged me, that I should said unto me also, Thou shalt keep close to his reapers, till fast by my young men, until they have ended all the corn should be reaped.my harvest.

2.22 And Naomi said unto Ruth her mother daughter in law said to her: law, It is better for thee, good, my daughter, to that thou go out to reap with his maids, lest maidens, that they meet thee not in another man's field some one may resist thee.any other field.

2.23 So she kept close to fast by the maids maidens of Booz: and continued Boaz to glean with them, till all unto the end of barley harvest and the of wheat were laid up harvest; and dwelt with her mother in the barns.law.

3.2 This Booz, And now is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maids maidens thou wast joined in the field, is our near kinsman, and behold this night wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to night in the threshingfloor.

3.3 Wash thyself therefore therefore, and anoint thee, and put on thy best garments, raiment upon thee, and go get thee down to the barnfloor: floor: but let make not thyself known unto the man see thee, till man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.

3.4 And it shall be, when he shall go to sleep, lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place wherein where he sleepeth: shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and lift up the clothes wherewith he is covered towards uncover his feet, and shalt lay thyself down there: thee down; and he will tell thee what thou must shalt do.

3.5 She answered: Whatsoever And she said unto her, All that thou shalt command, sayest unto me I will do.

3.6 And she went down to unto the barnfloor, floor, and did according to all that her mother in law had bid bade her.

3.7 And when Booz Boaz had eaten, eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to sleep by lie down at the end of the heap of sheaves, corn: and she came softly, and uncovering uncovered his feet, and laid herself her down.

3.8 And behold, when it was now midnight came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and troubled: and he saw turned himself: and, behold, a woman lying lay at his feet, feet.

3.9 And he said to her: said, Who art thou ? thou? And she answered: answered, I am Ruth, thy Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy coverlet skirt over thy servant, thine handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.

3.10 And he said: said, Blessed art be thou of the Lord, LORD, my daughter, and thy latter daughter: for thou hast shewed more kindness has surpassed in the former: because latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou hast followedst not followed young men either men, whether poor or rich.

3.11 Fear not therefore, but whatsoever thou shalt say to me And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee. For thee all the people that dwell within thou requirest: for all the gates city of my city, people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.

3.12 Neither do And now it is true that I deny myself to be am thy near of kin, but kinsman: howbeit there is another a kinsman nearer than I.

DRB Chapter 4 KJV

4.1 Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.

4.2 And Booz, taking he took ten men of the ancients elders of the city, said to them: and said, Sit ye down here.here. And they sat down.

4.3 They sat down, and And he spoke to said unto the kinsman: Noemi, who kinsman, Naomi, that is returned from come again out of the country of Moab will sell Moab, selleth a parcel of land that belonged to land, which was our brother Elimelech.Elimelech's:

4.4 And I would have thee thought to understand this, and would tell thee advertise thee, saying, Buy it before all that sit here, the inhabitants, and before the ancients elders of my people. If thou wilt take possession of it by the right of kindred: buy redeem it, and possess redeem it: but if it please thee not, thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me so, me, that I may know what I have to do. For know: for there is no near kinsman besides thee, who art first, none to redeem it beside thee; and me, who I am second. But after thee. And he answered: said, I will buy the field.redeem it.

4.5 And Booz Then said to him: When Boaz, What day thou shalt buy buyest the field at of the woman's hand, hand of Naomi, thou must take buy it also Ruth, of Ruth the Moabitess, who was the wife of the deceased: dead, to raise up the name of thy kinsman in the dead upon his inheritance.

4.6 He answered: And the kinsman said, I yield up my right of next akin: cannot redeem it for myself, lest I must not cut off the posterity of my mar mine own family. Do inheritance: redeem thou make use of my privilege, which I profess right to thyself; for I do willingly forego.cannot redeem it.

4.7 Now this in former times was the manner in Israel between kinsmen, that if at any former time one yielded his right in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing, for to another: that the grant might be sure, the confirm all things; a man put plucked off his shoe shoe, and gave it to his neighbour; neighbour: and this was a testimony of cession of right in Israel.

4.8 So Booz Therefore the kinsman said to his kinsman: Put off thy shoe. And immediately he took unto Boaz, Buy it for thee. So he drew off from his foot.shoe.

4.9 And he Boaz said to unto the ancients, elders, and to unto all the people: You people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and Chelion's, all that was Chilion's and Mahalon's, Mahlon's, of the hand of Noemi:Naomi.

4.10 And have taken to wife Ruth, Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahalon, Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the deceased in his inheritance lest dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off, off from among his family and his brethren brethren, and from the gate of his people. You, I say, place: ye are witnesses of this thing.day.

4.11 Then And all the people that were in the gate, and the ancients, answered: elders, said, We are witnesses: witnesses. The Lord LORD make this the woman who cometh that is come into thy house, thine house like Rachel, Rachel and Lia, who built up like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: that she may be an example of virtue and do thou worthily in Ephrata, Ephratah, and may have a be famous name in Bethlehem:

4.12 And that the let thy house may be, as be like the house of Phares, Pharez, whom Thamar bore Tamar bare unto Juda, Judah, of the seed which the Lord LORD shall give thee of this young woman.

4.13 Booz therefore So Boaz took Ruth, and married her: she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, and the Lord LORD gave her to conceive, conception, and to bear she bare a son.

4.14 And the women said to Noemi: unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, who LORD, which hath not suffered thy family to want left thee this day without a successor: kinsman, that his name should may be preserved famous in Israel.

4.15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him.

4.16 And Noemi taking Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and she carried it, and was a became nurse unto it.

4.17 And the women, women her neighbours, congratulating with her, and neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Noemi, Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Isai, Jesse, the father of David.

4.18 These Now these are the generations of Phares: Phares begot Esron,Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron,

4.19 Esron begot Aram, Aram begot Aminadab,And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,

4.20 Aminadab begot Nahasson, Nahasson begot And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,

4.21 And Salmon begot Booz, Booz begot begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,

4.22 And Obed begot Isai, Isai begot begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
