DRB Chapter 1 EB

1.1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

1.2 The same was in the beginning with God.

1.3 All things were made by him: him; and without him was not any thing made nothing that was made.

1.4 In him was life, life; and the life was the light of men.

1.5 And the light shineth in darkness, darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it. comprehended it not.

1.6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

1.7 This man The same came for a witness, to give testimony bear witness of the light, Light, that all men might believe through him. him might believe.

1.8 He was not the light, that Light, but was sent to give testimony bear witness of the light. that Light.

1.9 That was the true light, Light, which enlighteneth lighteth every man that cometh into this the world.

1.10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

1.11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

1.12 But as many as received him, he gave to them gave he power to be made become the sons of God, even to them that believe in on his name. name:

1.13 Who are Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

1.14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw beheld his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

1.15 John beareth bare witness of him, and crieth out, saying: cried, saying, This was he of whom I spoke: spake, He that shall come cometh after me, me is preferred before me: because for he was before me.

1.16 And of his fulness we all have all we received, and grace for grace.

1.17 For the law was given by Moses; Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

1.18 No man hath seen God at any time: time, the only begotten Son who Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

1.19 And this is the testimony record of John, when the Jews sent from Jerusalem priests and Levites to him, from Jerusalem to ask him: him, Who art thou?

1.20 And he confessed, and did not deny: and he confessed: denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

1.21 And they asked him: him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he said: saith, I am not. Art thou the that prophet? And he answered: answered, No.

1.22 They Then said therefore they unto him: him, Who art thou, thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us? us. What sayest thou of thyself?

1.23 He said: said, I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, make Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaias. Esaias.

1.24 And they that which were sent, sent were of the Pharisees.

1.25 And they asked him, and said to him: unto him, Why then dost baptizest thou baptize, then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, nor the neither that prophet?

1.26 John answered them, saying: saying, I baptize with water; water: but there hath stood standeth one in the midst of among you, whom you ye know not. not;

1.27 The same is he that shall come after me, He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me: the latchet of me, whose shoe shoe's latchet I am not worthy to loose. unloose.

1.28 These things were done in Bethania, Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

1.29 The next day, day John saw seeth Jesus coming to unto him, and he saith: saith, Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who which taketh away the sin of the world.

1.30 This is he, he of whom I said: said, After me there cometh a man, who man which is preferred before me: because for he was before me.

1.31 And I knew him not, not: but that he may should be made manifest in to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

1.32 And John gave testimony, saying: bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit coming down, as a dove descending from heaven, heaven like a dove, and he remained it abode upon him.

1.33 And I knew him not; not: but he who that sent me to baptize with water, the same said to me: He upon unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining upon on him, he it the same is that he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

1.34 And I saw, and I gave testimony, bare record that this is the Son of God.

1.35 The Again the next day again after John stood, and two of his disciples. disciples;

1.36 And beholding looking upon Jesus walking, as he saith: walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God. God!

1.37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

1.38 And Then Jesus turning, turned, and seeing saw them following him, following, and saith to them: unto them, What seek you? Who ye? They said to unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

1.39 He saith to them: unto them, Come and see. They came, came and saw where he abode, dwelt, and they stayed abode with him that day: now for it was about the tenth hour.

1.40 And Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one One of the two who had which heard of John, John speak, and followed him. him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

1.41 He findeth first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith to him: unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

1.42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus looking upon beheld him, said: he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is interpreted Peter. by interpretation, A stone.

1.43 On the The day following day, he Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and he findeth Philip. And Jesus Philip, and saith to him: unto him, Follow me.

1.44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

1.45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him: unto him, We have found him him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph of Nazareth. Joseph.

1.46 And Nathanael said to him: unto him, Can there any thing of good thing come from out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him: unto him, Come and see.

1.47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him: him, and he saith of him: him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile. guile!

1.48 Nathanael saith to him: unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered, answered and said to him: unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

1.49 Nathanael answered him, and said: saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, God; thou art the King of Israel.

1.50 Jesus answered, answered and said to him: unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou believest: shalt see greater things than these shalt thou see. these.

1.51 And he saith to him: Amen, amen unto him, Verily, verily, I say to unto you, you Hereafter ye shall see the heaven opened, open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

DRB Chapter 2 EB

2.1 And the third day, day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee: Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there. there:

2.2 And both Jesus also was invited, called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

2.3 And the wine failing, when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith to him: unto him, They have no wine.

2.4 And Jesus saith to her: unto her, Woman, what is that to me and have I to do with thee? my mine hour is not yet come.

2.5 His mother saith to unto the waiters: servants, Whatsoever he shall say to saith unto you, do ye. it.

2.6 Now And there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three measures firkins apiece.

2.7 Jesus saith to them: unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

2.8 And Jesus he saith to them: unto them, Draw out now, and carry to bear unto the chief steward governor of the feast. And they carried bare it.

2.9 And when When the chief steward ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was, but was: (but the waiters knew who had drawn servants which drew the water; water knew;) the chief steward calleth governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

2.10 And saith to him: unto him, Every man at first setteth the beginning doth set forth good wine, wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse. But worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

2.11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee; Galilee, and manifested forth his glory, glory; and his disciples believed in on him.

2.12 After this he went down to Capharnaum, he Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples: and they remained continued there not many days.

2.13 And the pasch of the Jews Jews' passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2.14 And he found in the temple them those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting. sitting:

2.15 And when he had made, as it were, made a scourge of little small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, the sheep also and the oxen, sheep, and the money of the changers he oxen; and poured out, out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables he overthrew. tables;

2.16 And to said unto them that sold doves he said: doves, Take these things hence, and hence; make not the house of my Father a Father's house an house of traffic. merchandise.

2.17 And his disciples remembered, remembered that it was written: written, The zeal of thy thine house hath eaten me up.

2.18 The Jews, therefore, answered, Then answered the Jews and said to him: unto him, What sign dost shewest thou shew unto us, seeing that thou dost doest these things?

2.19 Jesus answered, answered and said to them: unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

2.20 The Jews then said: Six Then said the Jews, Forty and forty six years was this temple in building; building, and wilt thou raise rear it up in three days?

2.21 But he spoke spake of the temple of his body.

2.22 When therefore he was risen again from the dead, his disciples remembered, remembered that he had said this, this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word that which Jesus had said.

2.23 Now when he was at Jerusalem, in Jerusalem at the pasch, upon passover, in the festival feast day, many believed in his name, seeing his signs when they saw the miracles which he did.

2.24 But Jesus did not trust commit himself unto them, for that because he knew all men,

2.25 And because he needed not that any should give testimony testify of man: for he knew what was in man.

DRB Chapter 3 EB

3.1 And there There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. Jews:

3.2 This man The same came to Jesus by night, and said to him: unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art come a teacher come from God; God: for no man can do these signs which miracles that thou dost, unless doest, except God be with him.

3.3 Jesus answered, answered and said to him: Amen, amen unto him, Verily, verily, I say to unto thee, unless Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

3.4 Nicodemus saith to him: unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter a the second time into his mother's womb, and be born again? born?

3.5 Jesus answered: Amen, amen answered, Verily, verily, I say to unto thee, unless Except a man be born again of water and of the Holy Ghost, Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

3.6 That which is born of the flesh, flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit, Spirit is spirit.

3.7 Wonder not, Marvel not that I said to unto thee, you Ye must be born again.

3.8 The Spirit breatheth wind bloweth where he will; it listeth, and thou hearest his voice, the sound thereof, but thou knowest canst not tell whence he it cometh, and whither he it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

3.9 Nicodemus answered, answered and said to him: unto him, How can these things be done? be?

3.10 Jesus answered, answered and said to him: unto him, Art thou a master in of Israel, and knowest not these things?

3.11 Amen, amen Verily, verily, I say to unto thee, that we We speak what that we do know, and we testify what that we have seen, seen; and you ye receive not our testimony. witness.

3.12 If I have spoken to told you earthly things, and you ye believe not; not, how will you shall ye believe, if I shall speak to tell you of heavenly things?

3.13 And no man hath ascended into up to heaven, but he that descended came down from heaven, even the Son of man who which is in heaven.

3.14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

3.15 That whosoever believeth in him, may him should not perish; perish, but may have life everlasting. eternal life.

3.16 For God so loved the world, as to give that he gave his only begotten Son; Son, that whosoever believeth in him, may him should not perish, but may have life everlasting. everlasting life.

3.17 For God sent not his Son into the world, world to judge condemn the world, world; but that the world may through him might be saved by him. saved.

3.18 He that believeth in on him is not judged. But condemned: but he that doth believeth not believe, is already judged: condemned already, because he believeth hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

3.19 And this is the judgment: because the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than the light: for light, because their works deeds were evil.

3.20 For every one that doth doeth evil hateth the light, and neither cometh not to the light, that lest his works may not deeds should be reproved.

3.21 But he that doth truth, doeth truth cometh to the light, that his works deeds may be made manifest, because that they are done wrought in God.

3.22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judea: Judaea; and there he abode tarried with them, and baptized.

3.23 And John also was baptizing in Ennon Aenon near Salim; to Salim, because there was much water there; there: and they came came, and were baptized.

3.24 For John was not yet cast into prison.

3.25 And Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews concerning purification: about purifying.

3.26 And they came to unto John, and said to him: unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou gavest testimony, behold he barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.

3.27 John answered, answered and said: said, A man cannot can receive any thing, unless nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

3.28 You Ye yourselves do bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

3.29 He that hath the bride, bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth with joy greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. This voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

3.30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

3.31 He that cometh from above, above is above all. He all: he that is of the earth, of the earth he is, is earthly, and speaketh of the earth earth: he speaketh. He that cometh from heaven, heaven is above all.

3.32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth: testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.

3.33 He that hath received his testimony, testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.

3.34 For he whom God hath sent, sent speaketh the words of God: for God doth giveth not give the Spirit by measure. measure unto him.

3.35 The Father loveth the Son: Son, and he hath given all things into his hand.

3.36 He that believeth in on the Son, Son hath life everlasting; but everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son, Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

DRB Chapter 4 EB

4.1 When Jesus therefore understood that the LORD knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus maketh more disciples, made and baptizeth baptized more disciples than John,

4.2 (Though Jesus himself did not baptize, baptized not, but his disciples,)

4.3 He left Judea, Judaea, and went departed again into Galilee.

4.4 And he was of necessity to pass must needs go through Samaria.

4.5 He Then cometh therefore he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sichar, Sychar, near to the land which parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

4.6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well. It well: and it was about the sixth hour.

4.7 There cometh a woman of Samaria, Samaria to draw water. water: Jesus saith to her: unto her, Give me to drink.

4.8 For (For his disciples were gone into away unto the city to buy meats. meat.)

4.9 Then that Samaritan woman saith to him: the woman of Samaria unto him, How dost is it that thou, being a Jew, ask askest drink of me to drink, who me, which am a Samaritan woman? For woman of Samaria? for the Jews do not communicate have no dealings with the Samaritans.

4.10 Jesus answered, answered and said to her: unto her, If thou didst know knewest the gift of God, and who he it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou perhaps wouldst wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

4.11 The woman saith to him: unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing wherein to draw, draw with, and the well is deep; deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

4.12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

4.13 Jesus answered, answered and said to her: unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water, water shall thirst again; but he that shall drink again:

4.14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I will shall give him, him shall not thirst for ever:

4.14 But never thirst; but the water that I will shall give him, him shall become be in him a fountain well of water, water springing up into life everlasting. everlasting life.

4.15 The woman saith to him: unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

4.16 Jesus saith to her: unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

4.17 The woman answered, answered and said: said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her: unto her, Thou hast said well, well said, I have no husband:

4.18 For thou hast had five husbands: husbands; and he whom thou now hast, hast is not thy husband. This husband: in that saidst thou hast said truly.

4.19 The woman saith to him: unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

4.20 Our fathers adored on worshipped in this mountain, mountain; and you ye say, that at in Jerusalem is the place where men must adore. ought to worship.

4.21 Jesus saith to her: unto her, Woman, believe me, that the hour cometh, when you ye shall neither on in this mountain, not in nor yet at Jerusalem, adore worship the Father.

4.22 You adore that which you Ye worship ye know not: not what: we adore that which know what we know; worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

4.23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true adorers worshippers shall adore worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For truth: for the Father also seeketh such to adore worship him.

4.24 God is a spirit; Spirit: and they that adore him, worship him must adore worship him in spirit and in truth.

4.25 The woman saith to him: unto him, I know that the Messias cometh (who cometh, which is called Christ); therefore, Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

4.26 Jesus saith to her: unto her, I am he, who that speak unto thee am speaking with thee. he.

4.27 And immediately upon this came his disciples came; disciples, and they wondered marvelled that he talked with the woman. Yet woman: yet no man said: said, What seekest thou? or, why Why talkest thou with her?

4.28 The woman therefore then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men there: men,

4.29 Come, and see a man who has man, which told me all things whatsoever that ever I have done. Is did: is not he this the Christ?

4.30 They Then they went therefore out of the city, and came unto him.

4.31 In the mean time the while his disciples prayed him, saying: Rabbi, saying, Master, eat.

4.32 But he said to them: unto them, I have meat to eat, which you eat that ye know not. not of.

4.33 The disciples therefore Therefore said the disciples one to another: another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

4.34 Jesus saith to them: unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, that I may perfect and to finish his work.

4.35 Do you Say not say, ye, There are yet four months, and then the harvest cometh? Behold, cometh harvest? behold, I say to unto you, lift Lift up your eyes, and see look on the countries; fields; for they are white already to harvest.

4.36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life everlasting: eternal: that both he that soweth, soweth and he that reapeth, reapeth may rejoice together.

4.37 For in this is the saying true: That it And herein is one man that saying true, One soweth, and it is another that reapeth.

4.38 I have sent you to reap that in which you did not whereon ye bestowed no labour: others have other men laboured, and you have ye are entered into their labours.

4.39 Now of that city And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in him, on him for the word saying of the woman giving testimony: woman, which testified, He told me all things whatsoever that ever I have done. did.

4.40 So when the Samaritans were come to unto him, they desired besought him that he would tarry there. And with them: and he abode there two days.

4.41 And many more believed in him because of his own word. word;

4.42 And they said to unto the woman: We now woman, Now we believe, not for because of thy saying: for we ourselves have heard him, him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

4.43 Now after two days, days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

4.44 For Jesus himself gave testimony testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

4.45 And Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galileans Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he had done did at Jerusalem on at the festival day; feast: for they also went to unto the festival day. feast.

4.46 He So Jesus came again therefore into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain ruler, nobleman, whose son was sick at Capharnaum. Capernaum.

4.47 He having When he heard that Jesus was come from Judea out of Judaea into Galilee, he went to unto him, and prayed besought him to that he would come down, and heal his son; son: for he was at the point of death.

4.48 Jesus therefore Then said to him: Unless you Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, you believe not. ye will not believe.

4.49 The ruler nobleman saith to him: Lord, unto him, Sir, come down before that ere my son child die.

4.50 Jesus saith to him: unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. The And the man believed the word which that Jesus said to had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

4.51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him; him, and they brought word, told him, saying, that his Thy son lived. liveth.

4.52 He asked therefore Then enquired he of them the hour wherein when he grew better. began to amend. And they said to him: Yesterday, unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour, hour the fever left him.

4.53 The So the father therefore knew, knew that it was at the same hour that hour, in the which Jesus said to unto him, Thy son liveth; liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

4.54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judea Judaea into Galilee.

DRB Chapter 5 EB

5.1 After these things this there was a festival day feast of the Jews, Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

5.2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pond, called Probatica, pool, which is called in the Hebrew is named Bethsaida, tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

5.3 In these lay a great multitude of sick, impotent folk, of blind, of lame, of withered; halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

5.4 And For an angel of the Lord descended went down at a certain times season into the pond; pool, and troubled the water was moved. And he that went down water: whosoever then first into the pond after the motion troubling of the water, water stepped in was made whole, whole of whatsoever infirmity disease he lay under. had.

5.5 And there was a certain man was there, that which had been eight and an infirmity thirty years under his infirmity. and eight years.

5.6 Him when When Jesus had seen lying, saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time, time in that case, he saith to him: unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

5.7 The infirm impotent man answered him: him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pond. For whilst pool: but while I am coming, another goeth steppeth down before me.

5.8 Jesus saith to him: Arise, unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

5.9 And immediately the man was made whole: whole, and he took up his bed, and walked. And it walked: and on the same day was the sabbath that day. sabbath.

5.10 The Jews therefore said to unto him that was healed: cured, It is the sabbath; sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to take up carry thy bed.

5.11 He answered them: them, He that made me whole, he the same said to unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

5.12 They Then asked him therefore: Who they him, What man is that man who which said to unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

5.13 But And he who that was healed, knew healed wist not who it was; was: for Jesus went aside from the had conveyed himself away, a multitude standing being in the that place.

5.14 Afterwards, Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and saith to him: Behold said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest some a worse thing happen to come unto thee.

5.15 The man went his way, departed, and told the Jews, Jews that it was Jesus who Jesus, which had made him whole.

5.16 Therefore And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he did had done these things on the sabbath. sabbath day.

5.17 But Jesus answered them: them, My Father worketh until now; hitherto, and I work.

5.18 Hereupon therefore Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he did not only break had broken the sabbath, but also said also that God was his Father, making himself equal to with God.

5.19 Then answered Jesus answered, and said to them: Amen, amen, unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, the The Son cannot can do any thing nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: do: for what things soever he doth, doeth, these also doeth the Son also doth in like manner. likewise.

5.20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things which that himself doth: doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these will he shew him, these, that you ye may wonder. marvel.

5.21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and giveth life: quickeneth them; even so the Son also giveth life to quickeneth whom he will.

5.22 For neither doth the Father judge any judgeth no man, but hath given committed all judgment to unto the Son. Son:

5.23 That all men may should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He who that honoureth not the Son, Son honoureth not the Father, who Father which hath sent him.

5.24 Amen, amen Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that he who heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath life everlasting; everlasting life, and cometh shall not come into judgment, condemnation; but is passed from death to unto life.

5.25 Amen, amen Verily, verily, I say unto you, that the The hour cometh, is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, God: and they that hear shall live.

5.26 For as the Father hath life in himself, himself; so he hath he given to the Son also to have life in himself: himself;

5.27 And he hath given him power authority to do judgment, execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

5.28 Wonder Marvel not at this; this: for the hour cometh, wherein is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear the voice of the Son of God. his voice,

5.29 And shall come forth; they that have done good things, shall come forth good, unto the resurrection of life; but and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment. damnation.

5.30 I cannot can of myself mine own self do any thing. As nothing: as I hear, so I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not my mine own will, but the will of him that the Father which hath sent me.

5.31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

5.32 There is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

5.33 You Ye sent to unto John, and he gave testimony to bare witness unto the truth.

5.34 But I receive not testimony from man: but I say these things, things I say, that you may ye might be saved.

5.35 He was a burning and a shining light: and you ye were willing for a time season to rejoice in his light.

5.36 But I have a greater testimony witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to perfect; finish, the same works themselves, which that I do, give testimony bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

5.37 And the Father himself who himself, which hath sent me, hath given testimony borne witness of me: neither me. Ye have you neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

5.38 And you ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him you ye believe not.

5.39 Search the scriptures, scriptures; for you think in them to ye think ye have life everlasting; eternal life: and the same they are they that give testimony which testify of me.

5.40 And you ye will not come to me me, that you may ye might have life.

5.41 I receive glory not honour from men.

5.42 But I know you, that you ye have not the love of God in you.

5.43 I am come in the name of my Father, Father's name, and you ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him you ye will receive.

5.44 How can you ye believe, who which receive glory honour one from another: of another, and seek not the glory which is honour that cometh from God alone, you do not seek? only?

5.45 Think Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom you ye trust.

5.46 For if you did believe had ye believed Moses, you ye would perhaps believe me also; have believed me; for he wrote of me.

5.47 But if you do not ye believe not his writings, how will you shall ye believe my words?

DRB Chapter 6 EB

6.1 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is that the sea of Tiberias.

6.2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw the his miracles which he did on them that were diseased.

6.3 And Jesus therefore went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.

6.4 Now the pasch, And the festival day passover, a feast of the Jews, was near at hand. nigh.

6.5 When Jesus therefore had then lifted up his eyes, and seen that saw a very great multitude cometh to company come unto him, he said to Philip: saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?

6.6 And this he said to try him; prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

6.7 Philip answered him: him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.

6.8 One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, Peter's brother, saith to him: unto him,

6.9 There is a boy here that lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two fishes; small fishes: but what are these they among so many?

6.10 Then And Jesus said: said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. The So the men therefore sat down, in number about five thousand.

6.11 And Jesus took the loaves: loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down. In like manner also down; and likewise of the fishes, fishes as much as they would.

6.12 And when When they were filled, he said to unto his disciples: disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, lest they that nothing be lost.

6.13 They Therefore they gathered up therefore, them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above to unto them that had eaten.

6.14 Now Then those men, when they had seen what a the miracle that Jesus had done, said: did, said, This is of a truth the prophet, that is to prophet that should come into the world.

6.15 When Jesus therefore, when he knew therefore perceived that they would come to and take him by force, and to make him a king, fled he departed again into the a mountain himself alone.

6.16 And when evening even was now come, his disciples went down to unto the sea. sea,

6.17 And when they had gone up entered into a ship, they and went over the sea to Capharnaum; and toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come unto to them.

6.18 And the sea arose, arose by reason of a great wind that blew.

6.19 When So when they had rowed therefore about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking upon on the sea, and drawing nigh to unto the ship, ship: and they were afraid.

6.20 But he saith to them: unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

6.21 They were willing therefore to take Then they willingly received him into the ship; ship: and presently immediately the ship was at the land to which whither they were going. went.

6.22 The next day, day following, when the multitude that people which stood on the other side of the sea, sea saw that there was no none other ship there but one, boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus had went not entered into the ship with his disciples, disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone. alone;

6.23 But other ships (Howbeit there came in other boats from Tiberias; Tiberias nigh unto the place where they had eaten the did eat bread, after that the Lord giving thanks. had given thanks:)

6.24 When therefore the multitude people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capharnaum, Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.

6.25 And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him: unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

6.26 Jesus answered them, them and said: Amen, amen said, Verily, verily, I say to unto you, you Ye seek me, not because you have seen ye saw the miracles, but because you ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

6.27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto life everlasting, everlasting life, which the Son of man will shall give you. For unto you: for him hath God, God the Father, Father sealed.

6.28 They Then said therefore they unto him: him, What shall we do, that we may might work the works of God?

6.29 Jesus answered, answered and said to them: unto them, This is the work of God, that you ye believe in on him whom he hath sent.

6.30 They said therefore to him: unto him, What sign therefore dost shewest thou shew, then, that we may see, and may believe thee? What what dost thou work?

6.31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert, desert; as it is written: written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

6.32 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen unto them, Verily, verily, I say to you; unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven, heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

6.33 For the bread of God is that he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life to unto the world.

6.34 They Then said therefore they unto him: him, Lord, evermore give us always this bread.

6.35 And Jesus said to them: unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger: never hunger; and he that believeth in on me shall never thirst.

6.36 But I said unto you, that you That ye also have seen me, and you believe not.

6.37 All that the Father giveth to me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, me I will not in no wise cast out.

6.38 Because For I came down from heaven, not to do my mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

6.39 Now And this is the Father's will of the Father who which hath sent me: me, that of all that which he hath given me, me I should lose nothing; nothing, but should raise it up again in at the last day.

6.40 And this is the will of my Father him that sent me: me, that every one who which seeth the Son, and believeth in on him, may have life everlasting, everlasting life: and I will raise him up in at the last day.

6.41 The Jews therefore then murmured at him, because he had said: said, I am the living bread which came down from heaven.

6.42 And they said: said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How how is it then saith he, that he saith, I came down from heaven?

6.43 Jesus therefore answered, answered and said to them: unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.

6.44 No man can come to me, except the Father, who Father which hath sent me, me draw him; him: and I will raise him up in at the last day.

6.45 It is written in the prophets: prophets, And they shall all be all taught of God. Every one man therefore that hath heard heard, and hath learned of the Father, and hath learned, cometh to unto me.

6.46 Not that any man hath seen the Father; but Father, save he who which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

6.47 Amen, amen Verily, verily, I say unto you: you, He that believeth in me, on me hath everlasting life.

6.48 I am the that bread of life.

6.49 Your fathers did eat manna in the desert, wilderness, and are dead.

6.50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven; heaven, that if any a man eat of it, he may eat thereof, and not die.

6.51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. heaven:

6.52 If if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever; ever: and the bread that I will give, give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. world.

6.53 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

6.54 Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you: you, Except you ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, you shall not ye have no life in you.

6.55 He that Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath everlasting life: eternal life; and I will raise him up in at the last day.

6.56 For my flesh is meat indeed: indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

6.57 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth dwelleth in me, and I in him.

6.58 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; Father: so he that eateth me, the same also even he shall live by me.

6.59 This is the bread that bread which came down from heaven. Not heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He dead: he that eateth of this bread, bread shall live for ever.

6.60 These things said he said, teaching in the synagogue, as he taught in Capharnaum. Capernaum.

6.61 Many therefore of his disciples, hearing it, said: when they had heard this, said, This saying is hard, and an hard saying; who can hear it?

6.62 But Jesus, knowing When Jesus knew in himself, himself that his disciples murmured at this, it, he said to them: unto them, Doth this scandalize offend you?

6.63 If then you What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

6.64 It is the spirit that quickeneth: quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing. The nothing: the words that I have spoken to speak unto you, they are spirit spirit, and they are life.

6.65 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning, beginning who they were that did not believe, believed not, and who he was, that would should betray him.

6.66 And he said: said, Therefore did said I say to unto you, that no man can come to unto me, unless except it be were given unto him by of my Father.

6.67 After this From that time many of his disciples went back; back, and walked no more with him.

6.68 Then Jesus said to Jesus unto the twelve: twelve, Will you ye also go away?

6.69 And Then Simon Peter answered him: him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

6.70 And we have believed believe and have known, are sure that thou art the that Christ, the Son of the living God.

6.71 Jesus answered them: them, Have not I chosen you twelve; twelve, and one of you is a devil?

6.72 Now he meant He spake of Judas Iscariot, Iscariot the son of Simon: for this same he it was about to that should betray him, whereas he was being one of the twelve.

DRB Chapter 7 EB

7.1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; Galilee: for he would not walk in Judea, Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

7.2 Now the Jews' Jew's feast of tabernacles was at hand.

7.3 And his His brethren therefore said to him: Pass from unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judea; Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy the works which that thou dost. doest.

7.4 For there is no man that doth doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, manifest shew thyself to the world.

7.5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.

7.6 Then Jesus said to them: unto them, My time is not yet come; come: but your time is always alway ready.

7.7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth: hateth, because I give testimony testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.

7.8 Go you ye up to unto this festival day, but feast: I go not up to yet unto this festival day: because feast: for my time is not accomplished. yet full come.

7.9 When he had said these things, words unto them, he himself stayed abode still in Galilee.

7.10 But after when his brethren were gone up, then went he also went up to unto the feast, not openly, but, but as it were, were in secret.

7.11 The Then the Jews therefore sought him on at the festival day, feast, and said: said, Where is he?

7.12 And there was much murmuring among the multitude people concerning him. For him: for some said: said, He is a good man. And man: others said: No, said, Nay; but he seduceth deceiveth the people.

7.13 Yet Howbeit no man spoke spake openly of him, him for fear of the Jews.

7.14 Now about the midst of the feast, feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.

7.15 And the Jews wondered, saying: marvelled, saying, How doth knoweth this man know letters, having never learned?

7.16 Jesus answered them, and said: said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.

7.17 If any man do the will of him; do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

7.18 He that speaketh of himself, himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the his glory of him that sent him, he the same is true, and there is no injustice unrighteousness is in him.

7.19 Did Moses not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law?

7.20 law? Why seek you go ye about to kill me? me?

7.20 The multitude answered, people answered and said: said, Thou hast a devil; devil: who seeketh goeth about to kill thee?

7.21 Jesus answered, answered and said to them: One work unto them, I have done; done one work, and you ye all wonder: marvel.

7.22 Therefore, Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day you circumcise a man.

7.23 If a man receive circumcision on the sabbath day, day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses may should not be broken; are you ye angry at me me, because I have healed the whole made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?

7.24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge just righteous judgment.

7.25 Some therefore Then said some of Jerusalem said: them of Jerusalem, Is not this he he, whom they seek to kill?

7.26 And behold, But, lo, he speaketh openly, boldly, and they say nothing to unto him. Have Do the rulers known for a truth, know indeed that this is the very Christ?

7.27 But Howbeit we know this man, man whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

7.28 Jesus therefore Then cried out Jesus in the temple, teaching, and saying: You temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and you ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself; myself, but he that sent me, me is true, whom you ye know not.

7.29 But I know him, because him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.

7.30 They Then they sought therefore to apprehend take him: and but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

7.31 But And many of the people many believed in on him, and said: said, When the Christ cometh, shall will he do more miracles, miracles than these which this man doth? hath done?

7.32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmuring these murmured such things concerning him: him; and the rulers and Pharisees and the chief priests sent ministers officers to apprehend take him.

7.33 Jesus therefore Then said to them: Jesus unto them, Yet a little while I am I with you: you, and then I go to unto him that sent me.

7.34 You Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither you ye cannot come.

7.35 The Jews therefore Then said the Jews among themselves: themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?

7.36 What manner of saying is this saying that he hath said: You said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me; me: and where I am, you thither ye cannot come?

7.37 And on In the last, and last day, that great day of the festivity, feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying: saying, If any man thirst, let him come to unto me, and drink.

7.38 He that believeth in on me, as the scripture saith, Out hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

7.39 Now (But this spake he said of the Spirit Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive, who believed in him: receive: for as yet the Spirit Holy Ghost was not given, yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified. glorified.)

7.40 Of that multitude Many of the people therefore, when they had heard these words of his, some said: This this saying, said, Of a truth this is the prophet indeed. Prophet.

7.41 Others said: said, This is the Christ. But some said: Doth the said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee?

7.42 Doth Hath not the scripture say: said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

7.43 So there arose was a dissension division among the people because of him.

7.44 And some of them would have apprehended him: taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

7.45 The ministers therefore Then came the officers to the chief priests and the Pharisees. And Pharisees; and they said to them: unto them, Why have you ye not brought him?

7.46 The ministers answered: officers answered, Never did man speak spake like this man.

7.47 The Pharisees therefore Then answered them: them the Pharisees, Are you ye also seduced? deceived?

7.48 Hath Have any one of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees? Pharisees believed on him?

7.49 But this multitude, that people who knoweth not the law, law are accursed. cursed.

7.50 Nicodemus said to saith unto them, (he that came to him Jesus by night, who was being one of them:) them,)

7.51 Doth our law judge any man, unless before it first hear him, and know what he doth? doeth?

7.52 They answered, answered and said to him: unto him, Art thou also a Galilean? Search the scriptures, of Galilee? Search, and see, that look: for out of Galilee a prophet riseth not. ariseth no prophet.

7.53 And every man returned to went unto his own house.

DRB Chapter 8 EB

8.1 And Jesus went unto the mount Olivet. of Olives.

8.2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, unto him; and sitting down he sat down, and taught them.

8.3 And the scribes and the Pharisees bring brought unto him a woman taken in adultery: adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

8.4 And said to him: They say unto him, Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery. adultery, in the very act.

8.5 Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone us, that such a one. But should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

8.6 And this This they said said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself stooped down, wrote and with his finger wrote on the ground. ground, as though he heard them not.

8.7 When therefore So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them: unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

8.8 And again stooping down, he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

8.9 But And they hearing this, which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus alone remained, was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

8.10 Then When Jesus lifting had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said to her: unto her, Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

8.11 Who said: She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said: said unto her, Neither will do I condemn thee. Go, thee: go, and now sin no more.

8.12 Again therefore, Then spake Jesus spoke to again unto them, saying: saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

8.13 The Pharisees therefore said to him: unto him, Thou givest testimony bearest record of thyself: thyself; thy testimony record is not true.

8.14 Jesus answered, answered and said to them: Although unto them, Though I give testimony bear record of myself, yet my testimony record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: go; but you know not ye cannot tell whence I come, or and whither I go.

8.15 You Ye judge according to after the flesh: flesh; I judge not any no man.

8.16 And yet if I do judge, my judgment is true: because for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

8.17 And It is also written in your law it is written, law, that the testimony of two men is true.

8.18 I am one that give testimony bear witness of myself: myself, and the Father that sent me giveth testimony beareth witness of me.

8.19 They Then said therefore to him: they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if you did know ye had known me, perhaps you would know ye should have known my Father also.

8.20 These words spake Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because him; for his hour was not yet come.

8.21 Again therefore Jesus Then said to them: Jesus again unto them, I go, go my way, and you ye shall seek me, and you shall die in your sin. Whither sins: whither I go, you ye cannot come.

8.22 The Jews therefore said: Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself, himself? because he said: saith, Whither I go, you ye cannot come? come.

8.23 And he said to them: You unto them, Ye are from beneath, beneath; I am from above. You above: ye are of this world, world; I am not of this world.

8.24 Therefore I said to therefore unto you, that you ye shall die in your sins. For sins: for if you ye believe not that I am he, you ye shall die in your sin. sins.

8.25 They Then said therefore to him: they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you. you from the beginning.

8.26 Many things I have many things to speak say and to judge of you. But you: but he that sent me, me is true: true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world. him.

8.27 And they They understood not, not that he called God his spake to them of the Father.

8.28 Jesus therefore Then said to them: Jesus unto them, When you shall ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know, ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, myself; but as the my Father hath taught me, these things I speak: speak these things.

8.29 And he that sent me, me is with me, and he me: the Father hath not left me alone: alone; for I do always the those things that please him.

8.30 When As he spoke spake these things, words, many believed in on him.

8.31 Then Jesus said Jesus to those Jews, who Jews which believed him: on him, If you ye continue in my word, you shall be then are ye my disciples indeed. indeed;

8.32 And you ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

8.33 They answered him: him, We are the seed of Abraham, be Abraham's seed, and we have were never been slaves in bondage to any man: how sayest thou: you thou, Ye shall be made free?

8.34 Jesus answered them: Amen, amen them, Verily, verily, I say unto you: that whosoever you, Whosoever committeth sin, sin is the servant of sin.

8.35 Now And the servant abideth not in the house for ever; ever: but the son Son abideth for ever.

8.36 If therefore the son Son therefore shall make you free, you ye shall be free indeed.

8.37 I know that you ye are the children of Abraham: Abraham's seed; but you ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

8.38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you ye do the things that you which ye have seen with your father.

8.39 They answered, answered and said to him: unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them: unto them, If you be the children of Abraham, ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

8.40 But now you ye seek to kill me, a man who have spoken that hath told you the truth to you, truth, which I have heard of God. This Abraham God: this did not. not Abraham.

8.41 You Ye do the works deeds of your father. They Then said therefore they to him: him, We are be not born of fornication: fornication; we have one Father, even God.

8.42 Jesus therefore said to them: unto them, If God were your Father, you ye would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded, and came; me: for I proceeded forth and came not from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me: me.

8.43 Why do you ye not know understand my speech? Because you even because ye cannot hear my word.

8.44 You Ye are of your father the devil, and the desires lusts of your father you ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and he stood abode not in the truth; truth, because truth there is not no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof. of it.

8.45 But if And because I say tell you the truth, you ye believe me not.

8.46 Which of you shall convince convinceth me of sin? If And if I say the truth to you, truth, why do you ye not believe me?

8.47 He that is of God, God heareth the words of God. Therefore you God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because you ye are not of God.

8.48 The Jews therefore answered, Then answered the Jews, and said to him: Do not unto him, Say we say not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

8.49 Jesus answered: answered, I have not a devil: devil; but I honour my Father, and you have dishonoured ye do dishonour me.

8.50 But And I seek not my mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

8.51 Amen, amen Verily, verily, I say to you: unto you, If any a man keep my word, saying, he shall not never see death for ever. death.

8.52 The Then said the Jews therefore said: unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: sayest, If any a man keep my word, saying, he shall not never taste death for ever. of death.

8.53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who which is dead? and the prophets are dead. Whom dost dead: whom makest thou make thyself?

8.54 Jesus answered: answered, If I glorify honour myself, my glory honour is nothing. It nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me, honoureth me; of whom you say ye say, that he is your God. God:

8.55 And you Yet ye have not known him, him; but I know him. And him: and if I shall say that should say, I know him not, I shall be like to you, a liar. But liar like unto you: but I do know him, and do keep his word. saying.

8.56 Abraham your Your father Abraham rejoiced that he might to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

8.57 The Jews therefore Then said to him: the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

8.58 Jesus said to them: Amen, amen unto them, Verily, verily, I say to unto you, before Before Abraham was made, was, I am.

8.59 They Then took they up stones therefore to cast at him. But him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple. temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

9.1 And as Jesus passing passed by, he saw a man, who man which was blind from his birth: birth.

9.2 And his disciples asked him: Rabbi, him, saying, Master, who hath sinned, did sin, this man, or his parents, that he should be was born blind?

9.3 Jesus answered: answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents; parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

9.4 I must work the works of him that sent me, whilst while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

9.5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

9.6 When he had said these things, thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and spread he anointed the clay on his eyes, eyes of the blind man with the clay,

9.7 And said to him: unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloe, which Siloam, (which is interpreted, Sent. by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and he came seeing.

9.8 The neighbours therefore, and they who which before had seen him before that he was a beggar, said: blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? Some said: This is he. begged?

9.9 But Some said, This is he: others said: No, but he said, He is like him. But him: but he said: said, I am he.

9.10 They Therefore said therefore to him: they unto him, How were thy thine eyes opened?

9.11 He answered: That answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my mine eyes, and said to me: unto me, Go to the pool of Siloe, Siloam, and wash. And I went, wash: and I went and washed, and I see. received sight.

9.12 And they Then said to him: they unto him, Where is he? He saith: said, I know not.

9.13 They bring him that had been blind brought to the Pharisees. Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

9.14 Now And it was the sabbath, sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

9.15 Again therefore Then again the Pharisees also asked him, him how he had received his sight. But he He said to them: unto them, He put clay upon my mine eyes, and I washed, and I do see.

9.16 Some therefore Therefore said some of the Pharisees said: Pharisees, This man is not of God, who because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said: sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

9.17 They say therefore to unto the blind man again: again, What sayest thou of him him, that he hath opened they thine eyes? And he said: He said, He is a prophet.

9.18 The But the Jews then did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight, sight.

9.19 And they asked them, saying: saying, Is this your son, who you ye say was born blind? How how then doth he now see?

9.20 His parents answered them, them and said: said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

9.21 But how by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: ask himself: he is of age, let him age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.

9.22 These things words spake his parents said, parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had already agreed among themselves, already, that if any man should did confess him to be that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

9.23 Therefore did said his parents say: parents, He is of age, age; ask himself. him.

9.24 They therefore Then again called they the man again that had been was blind, and said to him: unto him, Give glory to God. We God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

9.25 He said therefore to them: If answered and said, Whether he be a sinner, sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

9.26 They Then said then they to him: him again, What did he to thee? How did how opened he open thy thine eyes?

9.27 He answered them: them, I have told you already, and you have heard: why ye did not hear: wherefore would you ye hear it again? will you ye also become be his disciples?

9.28 They Then they reviled him therefore, him, and said: Be thou said, Thou art his disciple; but we are the disciples of Moses. Moses' disciples.

9.29 We know that God spoke to spake unto Moses: but as to for this man, fellow, we know not from whence he is.

9.30 The man answered, answered and said to them: Why, unto them, Why herein is a wonderful marvellous thing, that you ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened my mine eyes.

9.31 Now we know that God doth heareth not hear sinners: but if a any man be a server worshipper of God, and doth doeth his will, him he heareth.

9.32 From the beginning of Since the world began was it hath not been heard, heard that any man hath opened the eyes of one that was born blind.

9.33 Unless If this man were not of God, he could not do any thing. nothing.

9.34 They answered, answered and said to him: unto him, Thou wast wholly altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

9.35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out: out; and when he had found him, he said to him: unto him, Dost thou believe in on the Son of God?

9.36 He answered, answered and said: said, Who is he, Lord, that I may might believe in on him?

9.37 And Jesus said to him: unto him, Thou hast both seen him; him, and it is he that talketh with thee.

9.38 And he said: said, Lord, I believe, Lord. believe. And falling down, he adored worshipped him.

9.39 And Jesus said: said, For judgment I am come into this world; world, that they who which see not, may not might see; and that they who see, may become which see might be made blind.

9.40 And some of the Pharisees, who Pharisees which were with him, heard: him heard these words, and they said unto him: him, Are we also blind? blind also?

9.41 Jesus said to them: unto them, If you ye were blind, you ye should not have no sin: but now you say: ye say, We see. Your see; therefore your sin remaineth.

DRB Chapter 10 EB

10.1 Amen, amen Verily, verily, I say to you: unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up another some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

10.2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

10.3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

10.4 And when he hath let out putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them: them, and the sheep follow him, because him: for they know his voice.

10.5 But And a stranger will they follow not, not follow, but fly will flee from him, because him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

10.6 This proverb parable spake Jesus spoke to them. But unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spoke to spake unto them.

10.7 Jesus therefore Then said to Jesus unto them again: Amen, amen again, Verily, verily, I say to unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

10.8 All others, as many as have come, that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: and but the sheep heard them not. did not hear them.

10.9 I am the door. By me, door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved: saved, and he shall go in, in and go out, and shall find pastures. pasture.

10.10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. destroy: I am come that they may might have life, and may that they might have it more abundantly.

10.11 I am the good shepherd. The shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for his the sheep.

10.12 But the hireling, and he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and flieth: fleeth: and the wolf catcheth, catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep: sheep.

10.13 And the The hireling flieth, fleeth, because he is a hireling: an hireling, and he hath no care careth not for the sheep.

10.14 I am the good shepherd; shepherd, and I know mine, my sheep, and mine know me. am known of mine.

10.15 As the Father knoweth me, and I even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for my the sheep.

10.16 And other sheep I have, that which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, voice; and there shall be one fold fold, and one shepherd.

10.17 Therefore doth the my Father love me: me, because I lay down my life, that I may might take it again.

10.18 No man taketh it away from me: me, but I lay it down of myself, and myself. I have power to lay it down: down, and I have power to take it up again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

10.19 A dissension rose There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these words. sayings.

10.20 And many of them said: said, He hath a devil, and is mad: mad; why hear you ye him?

10.21 Others said: said, These are not the words of one him that hath a devil: devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?

10.22 And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication at Jerusalem: dedication, and it was winter.

10.23 And Jesus walked in the temple, temple in Solomon's porch.

10.24 The Jews therefore Then came the Jews round about him, and said to him: unto him, How long dost thou hold our souls in suspense? make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.

10.25 Jesus answered them: them, I speak to told you, and you believe ye believed not: the works that I do in the name of my Father, Father's name, they give testimony bear witness of me.

10.26 But you do not believe, ye believe not, because you ye are not of my sheep. sheep, as I said unto you.

10.27 My sheep hear my voice: voice, and I know them, and they follow me. me:

10.28 And I give unto them life everlasting; eternal life; and they shall not perish for ever, and no man never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

10.29 That My Father, which my Father hath given gave them me, is greater than all: all; and no one can snatch man is able to pluck them out of the hand of my Father. Father's hand.

10.30 I and the my Father are one.

10.31 The Then the Jews then took up stones again to stone him.

10.32 Jesus answered them: them, Many good works I have I shewed you from my Father; for which of these those works do you ye stone me?

10.33 The Jews answered him: him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not, not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, maketh makest thyself God.

10.34 Jesus answered them: them, Is it not written in your law: law, I said you said, Ye are gods?

10.35 If he called them gods, to unto whom to the word of God was spoken, came, and the scripture cannot be broken;

10.36 Do you say Say ye of him him, whom the Father hath sanctified sanctified, and sent into the world: world, Thou blasphemest, blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

10.37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

10.38 But if I do, though you will not ye believe not me, believe the works: that you ye may know know, and believe believe, that the Father is in me, and I in the Father. him.

10.39 They Therefore they sought therefore again to take him; and him: but he escaped out of their hands. hand,

10.40 And he went away again beyond the Jordan, Jordan into that the place where John was baptizing first; at first baptized; and there he abode.

10.41 And many resorted to unto him, and they said: said, John indeed did no sign.

11.1 Now there was a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethania, of Bethany, the town of Mary and Martha her sister. sister Martha.

11.2 (And Mary (It was she that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair: hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

11.3 His Therefore his sisters therefore sent to unto him, saying: saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

11.4 And When Jesus hearing it, said to them: heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God: God, that the Son of God may might be glorified by it. thereby.

11.5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister Mary, sister, and Lazarus.

11.6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still remained in the same place two days. where he was.

11.7 Then after that, that saith he said to his disciples: disciples, Let us go into Judea Judaea again.

11.8 The His disciples say to him: Rabbi, unto him, Master, the Jews but now of late sought to stone thee: thee; and goest thou thither again?

11.9 Jesus answered: answered, Are there not twelve hours of in the day? If a any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world: world.

11.10 But if he a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light there is not no light in him.

11.11 These things he said; said he: and after that he said to them: Lazarus our saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

11.12 His disciples therefore said: Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.

11.13 But Howbeit Jesus spoke spake of his death; and death: but they thought that he spoke had spoken of the repose taking of rest in sleep.

11.14 Then therefore Jesus said to Jesus unto them plainly: plainly, Lazarus is dead.

11.15 And I am glad, glad for your sakes, sakes that I was not there, that you to the intent ye may believe: but believe; nevertheless let us go to unto him.

11.16 Thomas therefore, who Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, said to unto his fellow disciples: fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

11.17 Then when Jesus therefore came, and he found that he had been four days already lain in the grave. grave four days already.

11.18 (Now Bethania Now Bethany was near nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off.) off:

11.19 And many of the Jews were come came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

11.20 Martha therefore, Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus had come, was coming, went to meet and met him: but Mary sat at home. still in the house.

11.21 Martha therefore Then said to Jesus: Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

11.22 But now also I know know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

11.23 Jesus saith to her: unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

11.24 Martha saith to him: unto him, I know that he shall rise again, again in the resurrection at the last day.

11.25 Jesus said to her: unto her, I am the resurrection resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, although though he be were dead, yet shall he live:

11.26 And every one that liveth, whosoever liveth and believeth in me, me shall not die for ever. never die. Believest thou this?

11.27 She saith to him: unto him, Yea, Lord, Lord: I have believed believe that thou art Christ the Christ, the Son of the living God, who art which should come into this the world.

11.28 And when she had said these things, so said, she went, went her way, and called Mary her sister Mary secretly, saying: saying, The master Master is come, and calleth for thee.

11.29 She, as As soon as she heard this, riseth that, she arose quickly, and cometh to came unto him.

11.30 For Now Jesus was not yet come into the town: town, but he was still in that place where Martha had met him.

11.31 The Jews therefore, who then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary Mary, that she rose up speedily hastily and went out, followed her, saying: saying, She goeth to unto the grave to weep there.

11.32 When Then when Mary therefore was come where Jesus was, seeing and saw him, she fell down at his feet, and saith to him: saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

11.33 Jesus, therefore, when he When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews that were come also weeping which came with her, weeping, he groaned in the spirit, and troubled himself, was troubled.

11.34 And said: said, Where have you ye laid him? They say to him: said unto him, Lord, come and see.

11.35 And Jesus wept.

11.36 The Jews therefore said: Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him. him!

11.37 But And some of them said: said, Could not he that this man, which opened the eyes of the man born blind, have caused that even this man should not die? have died?

11.38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself, himself cometh to the sepulchre. Now it grave. It was a cave; cave, and a stone was laid over lay upon it.

11.39 Jesus saith: said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith to him: unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh, stinketh: for he is now of hath been dead four days.

11.40 Jesus saith to her: Did not unto her, Said I say to not unto thee, that that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shalt shouldest see the glory of God?

11.41 They Then they took therefore away the stone away. from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifting lifted up his eyes said: eyes, and said, Father, I give thank thee thanks that thou hast heard me.

11.42 And I knew that thou hearest me always; always: but because of the people who which stand about have by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

11.43 When And when he thus had said these things, spoken, he cried with a loud voice: voice, Lazarus, come forth.

11.44 And presently he that had been was dead came forth, bound feet hand and hands foot with winding bands; graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus said to them: saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

11.45 Many therefore Then many of the Jews, who were come Jews which came to Mary and Martha, Mary, and had seen the things that which Jesus did, believed in on him.

11.46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them the what things that Jesus had done.

11.47 The Then gathered the chief priests therefore, and the Pharisees, gathered Pharisees a council, and said: said, What do we, we? for this man doth doeth many miracles? miracles.

11.48 If we let him alone so, thus alone, all men will believe in him; on him: and the Romans will come, shall come and take away both our place and nation.

11.49 But And one of them, named Caiphas, Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said to them: You unto them, Ye know nothing. nothing at all,

11.50 Neither do you Nor consider that it is expedient for you us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

11.51 And this spake he spoke not of himself: but being the high priest of that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation. that nation;

11.52 And not only for the nation, that nation only, but to that also he should gather together in one the children of God, God that were dispersed. scattered abroad.

11.53 From Then from that day therefore forth they devised took counsel together for to put him to death.

11.54 Wherefore Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but he went into thence unto a country near to the desert, unto wilderness, into a city that is called Ephrem, Ephraim, and there he abode continued with his disciples.

11.55 And the pasch of the Jews Jews' passover was nigh at hand; hand: and many from went out of the country went up to Jerusalem, Jerusalem before the pasch passover, to purify themselves.

11.56 They Then sought therefore they for Jesus; Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they discoursed one with another, standing stood in the temple: temple, What think you ye, that he is will not come to the festival day? And feast?

11.57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that that, if any man knew where he was, were, he should tell, shew it, that they might apprehend take him.

12.1 Then Jesus therefore, six days before the pasch, passover came to Bethania, Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom Jesus he raised to life. from the dead.

12.2 And There they made him a supper there: supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that were sat at the table with him.

12.3 Mary therefore Then took Mary a pound of ointment of right spikenard, of great price, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

12.4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, he that was about to Simon's son, which should betray him, said: him,

12.5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?

12.6 Now This he said this, said, not because that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the purse, carried had the things that were bag, and bare what was put therein.

12.7 Jesus therefore said: Then said Jesus, Let her alone, that she may keep it alone: against the day of my burial. burying hath she kept this.

12.8 For the poor you have always ye have with you; but me you ye have not always.

12.9 A great multitude therefore Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there; there: and they came, came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus, Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

12.10 But the chief priests thought to kill consulted that they might put Lazarus also: also to death;

12.11 Because many of the Jews, that by reason of him, him many of the Jews went away, and believed in on Jesus.

12.12 And on On the next day, a great multitude day much people that was to were come to the festival day, feast, when they had heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

12.14 And Jesus Jesus, when he had found a young ass, and sat upon it, thereon; as it is written: written,

12.16 These things understood not his disciples did not know at the first; first: but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to unto him.

12.17 The multitude people therefore gave testimony, which that was with him, him when he called Lazarus out of the his grave, and raised him from the dead. dead, bare record.

12.18 For which reason also this cause the people came to meet also met him, because for that they heard that he had done this miracle.

12.19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves: Do you see that we themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the whole world is gone after him.

12.22 Philip cometh, cometh and telleth Andrew. Again Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip told tell Jesus.

12.23 But And Jesus answered them, saying: saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

12.24 Amen, amen Verily, verily, I say to unto you, unless the grain Except a corn of wheat falling fall into the ground die,

12.25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth world shall keep it unto life eternal.

12.26 If any man minister to serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall also my minister be. If servant be: if any man minister to serve me, him will my Father honour.

12.27 Now is my soul troubled. And troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But hour: but for this cause I came I unto this hour.

12.28 Father, glorify thy name. A voice therefore Then came there a voice from heaven: heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

12.29 The multitude therefore people therefore, that stood by, and heard, heard it, said that it thundered. Others said: thundered: others said, An angel spoke spake to him.

12.30 Jesus answered, answered and said: said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.

12.31 Now is the judgment of the this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

12.32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all things to myself. men unto me.

12.33 (Now this This he said, signifying what death he should die.) die.

12.34 The multitude people answered him: him, We have heard out of the law, law that Christ abideth for ever; ever: and how sayest thou: thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? Who who is this Son of man?

12.35 Then Jesus therefore said to them: unto them, Yet a little while, while is the light is among with you. Walk whilst you while ye have the light, that the lest darkness overtake you not. And come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness, darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

12.36 Whilst you While ye have the light, believe in the light, that you ye may be the children of light. These things Jesus spoke; spake Jesus, and he went away, departed, and hid did hide himself from them.

12.37 And whereas But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not in on him:

12.38 That the saying of Isaias Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said: spake, Lord, who hath believed our hearing? report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

12.39 Therefore they could not believe, because Isaias that Esaias said again: again,

12.40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

12.41 These things said Isaias, Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spoke spake of him.

12.42 However, many of Nevertheless among the chief men rulers also many believed in on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, that lest they might not should be cast put out of the synagogue. synagogue:

12.43 For they loved the glory praise of men more than the glory praise of God.

12.44 But Jesus cried, cried and said: said, He that believeth in on me, doth believeth not believe in on me, but in on him that sent me.

12.45 And he that seeth me, me seeth him that sent me.

12.46 I am come a light into the world; world, that whosoever believeth in me, may on me should not remain abide in darkness.

12.47 And if any man hear my words, and keep them believe not, I do not judge him: him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

12.48 He that despiseth rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

12.49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father who which sent me, he gave me commandment a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

12.50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting. The things therefore that everlasting: whatsoever I speak, speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so do I speak.

19.4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and saith to them: unto them, Behold, I bring him forth unto to you, that you ye may know that I find no cause fault in him.

19.5 (Jesus therefore Then came Jesus forth, bearing wearing the crown of thorns thorns, and the purple garment.) robe. And he Pilate saith to them: unto them, Behold the Man. man!

19.6 When the chief priests, therefore, priests therefore and the servants, had seen officers saw him, they cried out, saying: saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith to them: unto them, Take him you, ye him, and crucify him: for I find no cause fault in him.

19.7 The Jews answered him: him, We have a law; law, and according to the by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.

19.8 When Pilate therefore had heard this that saying, he feared was the more. more afraid;

19.9 And he entered went again into the hall again, judgment hall, and he said to Jesus: saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.

19.10 Pilate therefore Then saith to him: Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not to unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and I have power to release thee?

19.11 Jesus answered: answered, Thou shouldst not couldest have any no power at all against me, unless except it were given thee from above. Therefore, above: therefore he that hath delivered me to thee, unto thee hath the greater sin.

19.12 And from henceforth thenceforth Pilate sought to release him. But him: but the Jews cried out, saying: saying, If thou release let this man, man go, thou art not Caesar's friend. For friend: whosoever maketh himself a king, king speaketh against Caesar.

19.13 Now when When Pilate had therefore heard these words, that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat, seat in the a place that is called Lithostrotos, and the Pavement, but in Hebrew the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

19.14 And it was the parasceve preparation of the pasch, passover, and about the sixth hour, hour: and he saith to unto the Jews: Jews, Behold your king. King!

19.15 But they cried out: out, Away with him; him, away with him; him, crucify him. Pilate saith to them: unto them, Shall I crucify your king? King? The chief priests answered: answered, We have no king but Caesar.

19.16 Then therefore he delivered he him to therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him forth. away.

19.17 And he bearing his own cross, he cross went forth to that into a place called the place of a skull, which is called Calvary, but in the Hebrew Golgotha. Golgotha:

19.18 Where they crucified him, and with him two others, one other with him, on each side, either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

19.19 And Pilate wrote a title also, title, and he put it upon on the cross. And the writing was: was JESUS OF NAZARETH, NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

19.20 This title therefore then read many of the Jews did read: because Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, in and Greek, and in Latin.

19.21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate: Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am the King of the Jews.

19.22 Pilate answered: answered, What I have written, written I have written.

19.23 The soldiers therefore, Then the soldiers, when they had crucified him, Jesus, took his garments, (and they and made four parts, to every soldier a part,) part; and also his coat. Now coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

19.24 They said then one to another: therefore among themselves, Let us not cut rend it, but let us cast lots for it, whose it shall be; be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, saying: which saith, They have parted my garments raiment among them, and upon for my vesture they have did cast lot. And lots. These things therefore the soldiers indeed did these things. did.

19.25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen. Magdalene.

19.26 When Jesus therefore had seen saw his mother mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith to unto his mother: mother, Woman, behold thy son. son!

19.27 After that, he Then saith he to the disciple: disciple, Behold thy mother. mother! And from that hour, the hour that disciple took her to unto his own. own home.

19.28 Afterwards, After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, said: saith, I thirst.

19.29 Now there was set a vessel set there full of vinegar. And they, putting vinegar: and they filled a sponge full of vinegar spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

19.30 When Jesus therefore, when he therefore had taken received the vinegar, said: he said, It is consummated. And bowing finished: and he bowed his head, he and gave up the ghost.

19.31 Then the Jews, (because The Jews therefore, because it was the parasceve,) preparation, that the bodies might should not remain on upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that was a great sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

19.32 The soldiers therefore came; Then came the soldiers, and they broke brake the legs of the first, and of the other that which was crucified with him.

19.33 But after when they were come came to Jesus, when they and saw that he was already dead, dead already, they did brake not break his legs. legs:

19.34 But one of the soldiers with a spear opened pierced his side, and immediately there forthwith came there out blood and water.

19.35 And he that saw it, hath given testimony, it bare record, and his testimony record is true. And true: and he knoweth that he saith true; true, that you also may ye might believe.

19.36 For these things were done, that the scripture might should be fulfilled: You shall not break a fulfilled, A bone of him. him shall not be broken.

19.37 And again another scripture saith: saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

19.38 And after these things, this Joseph of Arimathea (because he was Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews) Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus. And Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

19.39 And Nicodemus there came also came, (he who Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night,) bringing night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.

19.40 They Then took therefore they the body of Jesus, and bound wound it in linen cloths, clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

19.41 Now there was in the place where he was crucified, crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein no was never man yet had been laid.

19.42 There, therefore, There laid they Jesus therefore because of the parasceve of the Jews, they laid Jesus, because Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

DRB Chapter 20 EB

20.2 She ran, therefore, Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith to them: unto them, They have taken away the Lord LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

20.3 Peter therefore went out, forth, and that other disciple, and they came to the sepulchre.

20.4 And So they both ran together, both together: and that the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.

20.5 And when he stooped stooping down, he and looking in, saw the linen cloths clothes lying; but yet he went he not in.

20.9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

20.10 The Then the disciples therefore departed went away again to unto their own home.

20.11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre without, weeping. Now weeping: and as she was weeping, wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

20.13 They And they say to her: unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith to them: unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord; LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.

20.14 When And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing; standing, and she knew not that it was Jesus.

20.15 Jesus saith to her: unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, thinking it was supposing him to be the gardener, saith to him: unto him, Sir, if thou hast taken have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

20.16 Jesus saith to her: unto her, Mary. She turning, turned herself, and saith to him: Rabboni (which unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master). Master.

20.17 Jesus saith to her: Do not touch me, unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father. But Father: but go to my brethren, and say to them: unto them, I ascend to unto my Father Father, and to your Father, Father; and to my God God, and your God.

20.18 Mary Magdalen cometh, Magdalene came and telleth told the disciples: I have disciples that she had seen the Lord, LORD, and that he had spoken these things he said to me. unto her.

20.19 Now when it was late that Then the same day, day at evening, being the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut, shut where the disciples were gathered together, assembled for fear of the Jews, Jesus came Jesus and stood in the midst, and said to them: saith unto them, Peace be to unto you.

20.20 And when he had said this, so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. The disciples therefore Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. LORD.

20.21 He Then said therefore Jesus to them again: again, Peace be to you. As the unto you: as my Father hath sent me, I also even so send I you.

20.22 When And when he had said this, he breathed on them; them, and he said to them: saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost. Ghost:

20.23 Whose soever sins you shall forgive, ye remit, they are forgiven remitted unto them; and whose soever sins you shall ye retain, they are retained.

20.24 Now But Thomas, one of the twelve, who is called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

20.25 The other disciples therefore said to him: unto him, We have seen the Lord. LORD. But he said to them: unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the place print of the nails, and put thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.

20.26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Jesus cometh, them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said: said, Peace be to unto you.

20.27 Then he saith he to Thomas: Put in Thomas, Reach hither thy finger hither, finger, and see behold my hands; and bring reach hither thy hand, and put thrust it into my side; side: and be not faithless, but believing.

20.28 And Thomas answered, answered and said to him: unto him, My Lord, LORD and my God.

20.29 Jesus saith to him: Because unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

20.30 Many And many other signs also truly did Jesus in the sight presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. book:

20.31 But these are written, that you may ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: God; and that believing, you may believing ye might have life in through his name.

DRB Chapter 21 EB

21.1 After this, these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias. And he shewed himself after Tiberias; and on this manner. wise shewed he himself.

21.2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas, who is Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael, who was Nathanael of Cana of in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others other of his disciples.

21.3 Simon Peter saith to them: unto them, I go a fishing. They say to him: unto him, We also come go with thee. And they They went forth, and entered into the ship: a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

21.4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: yet but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.

21.5 Then Jesus therefore said to them: saith unto them, Children, have you ye any meat? They answered him: him, No.

21.6 He saith to them: And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you ye shall find. They cast therefore; therefore, and now they were not able to draw it, it for the multitude of fishes.

21.7 That Therefore that disciple therefore whom Jesus loved, said to Peter: loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Simon Peter, Now when he Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat about unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

21.8 But And the other disciples came in the ship, a little ship; (for they were not far from the land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.

21.9 As soon then as they came were come to land, they saw hot a fire of coals lying, there, and a fish laid thereon, and bread.

21.10 Jesus saith to them: unto them, Bring hither of the fishes fish which you ye have now caught.

21.11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land, land full of great fishes, one an hundred and fifty-three. And although fifty and three: and for all there were so many, the net yet was not the net broken.

21.12 Jesus saith to them: Come, unto them, Come and dine. And none of them who were at meat, the disciples durst ask him: him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

21.13 And Jesus cometh then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish in like manner. likewise.

21.14 This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

21.15 When therefore So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter: Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith to him: unto him, Yea, Lord, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: unto him, Feed my lambs.

21.16 He saith to him again: again the second time, Simon, son of John, Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith to him: unto him, Yea, Lord, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith to him: unto him, Feed my lambs. sheep.

21.17 He said to saith unto him the third time: time, Simon, son of John, Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved, grieved because he had said to unto him the third time: time, Lovest thou me? And he said to him: unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things: things; thou knowest that I love thee. He said to him: Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

21.18 Amen, amen Verily, verily, I say to unto thee, when When thou wast younger, young, thou didst gird girdest thyself, and didst walk where walkedst whither thou wouldst. But wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and lead carry thee whither thou wouldst wouldest not.

21.19 And this he said, This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had said spoken this, he saith to him: unto him, Follow me.

21.20 Peter Then Peter, turning about, saw that seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said: said, Lord, who which is he that shall betray betrayeth thee?

21.21 Him therefore when Peter had seen, he seeing him saith to Jesus: Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

21.22 Jesus saith to him: So unto him, If I will have him to remain that he tarry till I come, what is it that to thee? follow thou me.

21.23 This saying therefore Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die. And die: yet Jesus did said not say to him: unto him, He should shall not die; but, So If I will have him to remain that he tarry till I come, what is it that to thee?

21.24 This is that the disciple who giveth testimony which testifieth of these things, and hath written wrote these things; things: and we know that his testimony is true.

21.25 But And there are also many other things which Jesus did; did, the which, if they were should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself, I think, would itself could not be able to contain the books that should be written. written. Amen.
